Casa Chiara

SIENA

At a glance

Features:3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, charming and well-furnished
Distances:In the heart of Siena near Piazza del Campo

The medieval city of Siena lies on three ridges of hills which meet in the centre of the old town which, accordingly, is divided into three wards of terzi (thirds): to the South the Terzo di Citt' (with Via di Citt' as its main street), to the North the Terzo di Camollia (main street Banchi di Sopra) and to the East the Terzo di San Martino (main street Banchi di Sotto).

Right in the Terzo di San Martino, in the heart of Contrada del Nicchio (Shell) we offer this beautiful apartment located on the second floor of an historical building which, in the past, was also used as a convent. The cloister archways can be seen on the ground floor. There is an elevator, or a staircase of about 40 steps around the court yard lead to the entrance of the apartment.

This was one of the best recent finds and I am sure guests will enjoy this charming apartment immensely.

Casa Chiara consists of a spacious living/dining room with sofa and satellite TV; a well equipped kitchen (oven, fridge/freezer, cooker, dishwasher, washing machine), a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, a single bedroom, one bathroom with shower and one bathroom with tub. The apartment is bright and elegantly furnished mostly with antiques, and enjoys the most modern facilities. This is a perfect base from which to explore the splendours of Siena, in fact nearly everything you may want to see is within walking distance and large parts of the city are pedestrian zones.

'Must-sees' include the Piazza del Campo, scene of the enthralling Palio horse race twice a year, which is about 300 mt from the apartment. It is the central feature of the old town, a spacious scallop-shaped square dominated by the massive facade of the Palazzo Pubblico (Town Hall).

The Cathedral, one of the finest churches in Italy, standing on the highest point of the town, is about 5 minutes walk away. A few steps from the apartment is the Logge del Papa, an elegant three arched loggia by Antonio Federighi, so-called because it was commissioned by Pope Pius II (Enea Silvio Piccolomini) in honour of his family. Numerous restaurants and shops within walking distance.
